On Tuesday 22nd August, a group of our 5/6 students were fortunate to attend a STEM Sprint Challenge event held at the Melbourne Museum. The challenge was to learn about biodiversity and design an environment to encourage this in our city.
Our Grade 5/6 students enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day out at Edendale Farm on Tuesday 15th August as part of their STEM and Inquiry units on Water.
On 26 - 28 July our Year 5 students ventured to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat for a 3 day overnight Camp. The stayed onsite at Sovereign Hill enjoying the cultural experiences of life in the Goldfields.
On Friday, 19 July, our Year six students took part in a Retreat Day as part of our preparations for Confirmation. It was a wonderful day, shared with our Parish schools, St James Vermont and Our Lady's Ringwood, along with students from our wider Parish.
This week as we celebrated Holy Week, our Year 5/6 students guided us through the Stations of the Cross. It had a modern day perspective and was inspired by Indigenous artworks.
There was great excitement as our students and families ventured back for the start of school. It was wonderful to welcome our new prep Students and their families. The welcome back morning tea was well attended as parents reconnected for the start of the year. The Preps have all settled in beautifully, working and playing throughout the day with great enthusiasm and confidence. We are blessed with new students and families at St John's this year across different year levels. Year 6 Jumpers The Year 6 students were very excited to receive their new school jumpers today. The new rugby style jumper looks great and they all wore them very proudly.
Students at St John's School Mitcham participated in a flag raising ceremony and Anzac Day Service and where presented with a new message stick.
It was very exciting to welcome back our Prep students today after 10 weeks of remote learning.
Over the holidays we put our finishing touches to the new Chicken Enclosure. We are delighted to now have 5 new chickens at St John's.
Recently we had a very special guest visit the 3/4 learning area as part of the students persuasive writing unit.
On Tuesday the 11th of May students at St John’s participated in cyber safety workshops led by Martin McGauran of Inform and Empower.
